TUCSON, Ariz. – The TCU men’s tennis team rolled to a 4-1 win over Arizona on Thursday afternoon at the Wildcats’ LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

The 36th-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 10-4 on the year in winning their third-straight match and fifth in their last six outings. No. 54-ranked Arizona slipped to 9-4 with the loss. TCU handed UA just its second loss at home this season.

“This is a great road win and I’m proud of our poise during the tiebreakers,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “Nick Chappell and Will Stein came back to win a huge point again in doubles. I love their resilience.”

The Frogs once again claimed the doubles point in thrilling fashion, with sophomores Nick Chappell and Will Stein providing the clinching win. Arnau Dachs and Orlando Superlano were first to win for TCU, picking up an 8-2 win over Kieren Thompson and Naoki Takeda.

Dachs and Superlano’s win at No. 3 doubles set the stage for Chappell and Stein to better Fredrik Ask and Sumeet Shinde, 8-7 (5) on the top doubles court. Their win gave TCU a 1-0 lead in the match.

In singles, Superlano kept his solid start to the spring rolling when he pushed the Frog lead to 2-0 on a 6-2, 6-2 win over Andrew Vidaller at No. 4 singles. The San Cristobal, Venezuela, native upped his season tally to 11-2.

Rodolfo Bustamante made it 3-0 in favor of the visiting Frogs with his 7-6, 6-3 downing of Mario Urquidi at No. 5 singles. Bustamante, a junior from Brazil, snapped a two-match skid with his win.

Dachs scored the clinching fourth point for the Frogs when he took care of Ask, 7-6 (5), 7-5 on the second singles court. The Vic, Spain, native is 10-3 this spring and has won three-straight matches.

Arizona scored its lone point with a win at No. 1 singles after the match was clinched and the matches at Nos. 3 and 6 were halted. TCU’s JT Sundling was up a set and a break in the second set of his match at No. 6 singles.

TCU returns to action March 20 for a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M and Columbia in Fort Worth. The Frogs’ next six matches are at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
