FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team took less than two hours to drop Prairie View A&M, 6-0, on a warm and clear Wednesday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs won for the fourth-straight match and improved to 11-4 with the win. PVAMU dropped to 5-11. Due to TCU playing again this evening, only singles were played during the match.
“We did what we had to do and a I was glad we got some of the other guys into the lineup,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “Now we’ll regroup and get back into our normal routine for this evening against a solid Columbia team.”
To no surprise, it was senior Orlando Superlano who struck first for the Frogs, scoring a 6-0, 6-0 dismantling of Karim Fotson at No. 2 singles. The San Cristobal, Venezuela, native is 12-2 this spring and has won four-straight matches.
At No. 3 singles, Rodolfo Bustamante followed with his 6-0, 6-1 downing of Craig Wiltz to make it 2-0 in favor of the home team. Blake Wiggins, playing just his second match of the spring, was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at the expense of Jonathan Dingle on the sixth singles court.
Will Stein, who had played just two previous singles matches this spring, provided the clinching fourth point with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ronald Chidzikwe. Facundo Lugones ran the Frog tally to 5-0 when he dropped Jackson Varney, 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (9).
Max Stevens won 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4) on court No. 5 to score TCU’s sixth and final point of the afternoon. Stevens, a doubles regular, was playing in the singles lineup for the second time this spring.
TCU returns to action this evening when it hosts No. 32 Columbia at the Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
