FORT WORTH – The TCU men’s tennis team finished off a sweep of its Wednesday doubleheader with a 5-2 win over Columbia in the nightcap at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The 36th-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 12-4 with the win, which was their fifth in a row. Following its 6-0 win over Prairie View A&M earlier in the day, TCU completed the Wednesday sweep.  No. 32-ranked Columbia fell to 9-5 with the loss.

“Our performance from No. 2 doubles was the best I’ve seen all year,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “To be able to say that we had our best win so far this year and there’s still room for improvement is a good problem to have. We’ve got for days to get a little better if we’re going to pull the upset against Cal on Sunday.”

TCU opened the match by winning the doubles point for the fifth-straight time that doubles was contested in a match. TCU’s No. 2 duo of Max Stevens and JT Sundling was first to win, claiming an 8-4 triumph over Winston Lin and Eric Rubin.

Arnau Dachs and Orlando Superlano clinched TCU’s 1-0 lead when they took care of Dragos Ignat and Bert Vancura, 8-5. The remaining match at No. 1 doubles was stopped after the point was clinched.

Senior Superlano wasted no time making the lead 2-0 in favor of TCU with his 6-4, 6-2 win at the expense of Max Schnur at No. 4 singles. Superlano, a senior from Venezuela, leads the Frogs with a 13-2 mark this spring.

Columbia bounced back with a win at No. 3 singles to get within one, but Sundling returned the Frog advantage to two with his 6-1, 6-4 dismissal of Rubin on the sixth singles court. Sundling has won three-straight matches.

The Lions again got within one at 3-2 with their win at No. 5 singles only to see Nick Chappell clinch the match for the Frogs with a 6-4, 7-5 win over No. 34-ranked Winston Lin at No. 1 singles. Chappell grabbed his first win of the season over a ranked opponent.

In the final match of the night, Arnau Dachs finished off a 5-2 TCU win with his 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (6) downing of Ignat at No. 2 singles. The Vic, Spain, native ran his spring mark to 11-3.

TCU returns to action March 24 when California visits the Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
