FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team found itself back in the win column Tuesday evening with a 4-3 downing of San Diego on a cool night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The 36th-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 13-5 with the win after dropping a tough 4-3 decision to California last Sunday. No. 37-ranked San Diego slipped to 11-6 with the loss.

“I’m really proud of the guys for battling back after a tough loss to California,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “They showed a lot of heart and proved just how hungry they are. Now we’ve got to get ready for a tough Memphis team Saturday.”

TCU scored the doubles point in thrilling fashion, notching wins at Nos. 1 and 3 singles. The No. 79-ranked sophomore duo of Nick Chappell and Will Stein was first to win, dropping Clarke Spinosa and Thibaut Visy, 8-2, on the top singles court.

After USD evened the doubles proceedings with a win at No. 2 doubles, Arnau Dachs and Orlando Superlano provided the 9-7 point-clinching win at the expense of Ciaran Fitzgerald and Victor Pugliese. The Frog tandem broke the Torero duo in the match’s final game.

Dachs, who moved into the ITA singles rankings at No. 119 on Tuesday, pushed the Frog lead to 2-0 as singles got underway. The sophomore from Vic, Spain, dropped No. 78 Spinosa, 6-2, 6-2 for his 13th win of the spring.

Superlano was next to win for TCU, running his season mark to 14-3 with a 6-4, 6-1 dismissal of Romain Kalaydijan on the third singles court. The San Cristobal, Venezuela, native’s triumph made the score 3-0 in favor of the home team.

Rodolfo Bustamante clinched the match for TCU with his 6-0, 6-4 win over Fitzgerald at No. 6 singles. With the score 4-0 in favor of the Frogs, San Diego grabbed wins at Nos. 1, 4 and 5 singles in third-set super tiebreakers.

TCU returns to action Saturday when No. 34 Memphis and UTPA visit the Friedman Tennis Center. First serve against the Tigers is set for 1 p.m.
