TCU Men's Tennis Comes up Short at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The No. 39-ranked TCU men's tennis team fell 4-3 in Lubbock, Texas, Sunday to the 12th-rated Texas Tech Red Raiders. It was the Horned Frogs' seventh loss in a row and dropped their record to 5-8 this spring. Texas Tech moved to 18-1 with the victory.

TCU got off to a strong start by winning all three doubles positions. At one, the 13th-ranked duo of Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini recorded an 8-5 triumph over Radek Nijaki and Bojan Szumanski. Radu Barbu and Jacopo Tezza were 8-5 winners as well against Adrian Prpic and Esat Tanik at two doubles. Jordan Freitas and Jacob Martin registered an 8-4 victory over Michael Innerebner and Jakob Paulsen at the No. 3 slot.

Tech claimed the Nos. 1-4 singles positions to win the match. Nijkaki defeated No. 20 Sestini at the top slot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, while 23rd-ranked Szumanski beat Tezza, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, at two singles. Paulsen downed Barbu, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 3 hole and Tanik defeated Abreu at the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 6-4.

The Frogs got their two points in singles at five and six from Martin and Freitas. Martin won in straight sets versus Innerebner, 6-3, 6-3, while Freitas needed three stanzas to dispose of Prpic, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6.

TCU travels to Waco, Texas, Tuesday to face the No. 1-ranked Baylor Bears at 6 p.m. CST.
