TCU Men's Tennis Loses at No. 1 Baylor

WACO, Texas -- The No. 39-ranked TCU men's tennis team lost a 7-0 decision to No. 1 Baylor Tuesday night in Waco, Texas. It dropped the Horned Frogs' record on the season to 5-9 and marked their eighth defeat in a row. The Bears improved to 18-0 and won their 42nd consecutive match dating back to last year.
The Bears won all three doubles matches, with the first coming at the second position from the 44th-rated duo of Michal Kokta and Lars Poerschke. They defeated Jordan Freitas and Jacob Martin, 8-4. Baylor's top team of Benedikt Dorsch and Matija Zgaga, ranked fifth, upended No. 13 Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini, 8-5, to clinch the 1-0 lead. Benjamin Becker and Jon Reckewey were 9-7 winners against Radu Barbu and Jacopo Tezza at three doubles.
Zgaga picked up the Bears' first singles victory by downing Barbu at the No. 5 hole, 6-2, 6-2. Next to finish was No. 1-ranked Dorsch at two over Tezza, 6-2, 6-0. Poerschke, who holds a No. 17 billing nationally in singles, secured the win for Baylor with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph versus Abreu at No. 3 singles.
Kokta put Baylor up 5-0 after beating Martin on court four, 6-3, 6-1. Freitas lost a tough bout with Greg Shearer at No. 6 singles, falling in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. The No. 1 singles match between 49th-ranked Becker and No. 20 Sestini nearly went three sets, as Sestini lost 10-8 in a second-set tiebreaker. Sestini fell in the first set by a 7-5 score.
The Frogs will look to rebound Friday when they travel to Houston to face No. 32 Rice. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m. CST at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
