TCU Men's Tennis Falls to Oklahoma State

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 49-ranked TCU men's tennis team lost a 4-2 decision to No. 14 Oklahoma State on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas. The match took place on TCU's Bernard J. "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Tennis Courts at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. With the loss, the Horned Frogs fell to 6-13, while the Cowboys improved to 17-5.
The Frogs dropped the doubles point to fall behind early. Jordan Freitas and Jacob Martin defeated Daniel Byrnes and Jason Wright at the No. 2 spot, 8-6, for TCU's lone victory. Juan Felipe Diaz and Boris Kuharic from OSU won the deciding match at No. 1 doubles by downing the No. 11-rated duo of Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini, 9-7. The Cowboys' No. 3 team of Tomas Bohunicky and Artsem Burmistrau were 8-6 winners against Radu Barbu and Jacopo Tezza.
TCU responded with a couple of straight-set victories in singles to lead 2-1. The first came from Abreu on court six, where he blanked Wright, 6-0, 6-0. Sestini, who is ranked 31st in singles, registered the next win over No. 123 Bohunicky, 6-4, 6-4.
The Cowboys answered back, first at court No. 3. Byrnes lost the first set 6-4 to Barbu, however, he recovered to win 6-4, 6-2 in the ensuing two sets. Minutes later, Diaz won his second consecutive tiebreaker over Freitas at five singles. Freitas trailed 5-2 in the second set before forcing another breaker.
Burmistrau recorded the clinching victory for Oklahoma State at the No. 4 slot versus Tezza by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Martin and Kuharic's match at two singles was suspended in a third set once OSU secured the win. Martin was down a break at 5-3, but leading 40-15 on his serve before play was stopped.
TCU's final regular-season match is set for Sunday, April 17, versus No. 59 Colorado at noon CDT at the Friedman Tennis Center.
