Men's tennis prevails in opening round of NCAA Tournament

MALIBU, Calif. - The 32nd-ranked TCU men's tennis team advanced to the second round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament by dispatching 36th-ranked San Diego 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Frogs improved to 18-9 on the season and will take on second-ranked Pepperdine on Sunday at 3 p.m. (CST).
Senior Jacopo Tezza and freshman Kriegler Brink posted the first win for the Frogs by downing San Diego's Chris Coetzee and Oscar Plotnik 8-3 at court No. 3. The sophomore tandem of Cosmin Cotet and Andrei Mlendea clinched the doubles point for TCU with an 8-2 triumph at No. 2 over Mirza Koristovic and Jonas Mouly.
Tezza pushed the Frogs to a 2-0 match advantage with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Thomas Liversage at court No. 3. The win was Tezza's ninth in his last 10 matches.
Cotet won his second match of the afternoon and brought the Horned Frogs within one point of clinching the contest with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Koristovic at No. 4.
Junior Radu Barbu closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 versus Ryo Sekiguchi.
