Lopez and Stalder Into Final Four

May 27, 2017

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A complete performance across the board led the No. 25 TCU men's tennis doubles pair of Jerry Lopez and Reese Stalder into the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Doubles Championship Final Four as they downed the No. 22 pair of Juan Benitez and Will Little of Baylor, 6-4, 7-5, in the quarterfinals at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga., on Saturday.

Lopez and Stalder become the first pair of Horned Frogs since 2006 and fifth overall in program history to advance to the NCAA Doubles Final Four.

TCU and Baylor battled point-for-point the entire match, but late breaks by the Frogs proved to be the difference in the straight-set win. In the opening set, Lopez's shot down the line was in on deuce point to give TCU the break and 5-4 lead. The senior would then serve it out with three of his serves being aces to secure the set 6-4 for the Frogs. Neither team relented in the second set until TCU was once again victorious on the break at 5-5 to take the slight lead. Lopez was once again tasked with serving out the match, as Stalder's quick work at the net clinched the final point and the 7-5 victory for TCU.

Lopez and Stalder will face the No. 1 pair of Jan Zielinski and Robert Loeb of Georgia in the semifinals on Sunday, May 28.
