MIDLAND, Texas – TCU sophomore Arnau Dachs made the most of his TCU debut, claiming the singles title at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.

After sitting out his first year due to NCAA rules, Dachs opened his season with a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 win over Texas Tech’s Gabriel Wanderley in the round of 32 after receiving a bye in the first round of the event.

He continued his solid play in the round of 16, dropping Andrew Korinek of Texas, 6-3, 6-3. Korinek was the first of two Longhorns to fall victim to Dachs on the weekend. In the championship quarterfinals, Dachs needed only two sets once again as he took down Mads Hegulund of New Mexico, 7-6, 6-3.

After advancing through the semifinals, Dachs squared off with Texas’ Nick Naumann in the championship finals. Dachs claimed the first set, 6-4, but fell 6-3 in the second. Dachs was able to get the needed break in the third set and closed out a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 win for the tournament title.

Rodolfo Bustamante also had a strong debut for the Frogs, advancing to the championship semifinals. He won three matches before falling to Naumann in the semifinals. Among those wins were a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Alvaro Gutierrez of Wichita State and a 6-3, 7-6 downing of Joey Swaysland of Texas.

"This is a great start for Arnua," TCU coach David Roditi said. "I am very proud of the way he fought during every match. We like what we saw from him and Rodolfo. They fight."

Dachs became the first Horned Frog to win the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in the 12-year history that TCU has been going to the fall kickoff event. It also marked the first time the Frogs gathered two semifinalists.

"Our fans are going to love watching them compete this year," Roditi said. "Arnau's forehand may be the biggest shot in college tennis."
