TCU Horned Frog sophomore Jacopo Tezza survived the pre-quaifying rounds at the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships Sunday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. The sophomore from Verona, Italy, won his fourth-straight match, defeating LSU's Danny Bryan in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Tezza was scheduled to face Martin Stiegwardt of Florida tomorrow to play for the right to compete in the qualifying portion of the national event. The withdrawl of two competitors already in the qualifying tourney, though, allowed 10 players from pre-qualifying to advance instead of eight. In order to place 10 student-athletes in the qualifying tournament, two matches from tomorrow's round of 16 docket were randomly selected to not be played. Tezza and Stiegwardt, along with Federico Ueltschi (Montana State) and Tigran Martirosyan (Kentucky), were those pre-selected to move on.

Tezza was also in action with freshman Robert Gallman in doubles. The tandem fell by a 9-7 count to Ball State's duo of Matt Laramore and Brad Rhodes in the round of 32.

Junior and 63rd-rated Fabrizio Sestini will join Tezza Oct. 7 in the first round of qualifying. Senior Alex Menichini, ranked 47th, is already in the main draw of the event, which begins Oct. 9. He is the first Frog since Esteban Carril in 2000 to compete in the main draw.
