Oct. 5, 2013
FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU men’s tennis players Nick Chappell and Will Stein fell to No. 1 seed Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee 8-7 in the semifinals of the main draw doubles bracket at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships on Saturday in Tulsa, Okla.
Stein and Chappell became the first duo to make it to the semifinals since current Horned Frogs’ coach David Roditi and partner Paul Robinson won the event back in 1994.
Part of the collegiate grand slam, the All-American Championships hosted more than 200 players over a two-week period. Pre-qualifying took place over the weekend and the qualifying round through Wednesday. The Main Draw began Thursday and will last through the weekend.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 8-11 in New York, N.Y.
TCU will compete in three more tournaments this fall, the USTA Futures (Oct. 7-Oct. 20), ITA Regional Championships (Oct. 19-Oct. 23) and the UT Fall Invite (Oct 25-27), before starting their spring season with the UCF Hidden Dual on Jan. 9-12.
