Tezza Advances to Quarterfinals at ITA Regional

Jacopo Tezza from the TCU men's tennis team advanced to the singles quarterfinals Saturday at the ITA South Central Regional Championships in Austin, Texas. He defeated Ben Harknett from Rice in the round of 32, 6-2, 6-2, and made short work of Milan Mihailovic of Texas, winning 6-4, 6-1 to reach the quarters. Tezza is the Horned Frogs' only remaining competitor in the main draw and consolation portions of singles.
The Frogs had greater success in doubles, advancing one duo to the quarterfinals and another to the round of 16. Eighth-ranked Abreu and Sestini were 9-8 winners against Dash Connell and Zack Malmgren from Texas A&M, while No. 56-tabbed Jordan Freitas and Tezza recorded an 8-4 triumph over Lamar's Dean Clower and Ignacio Melus. Craig Stopa and Andrew Ulrich were defeated by Josey Trimmier and Ian Vazquez of Texas-Arlington, 9-8.
Abreu and Sestini snagged an 8-4 victory from Jeremy Blandin and Gonzalo Figuereido from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the round of 16. Freitas and Tezza were unable to play their round of 16 match due to darkness. Play continues Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. CST.
