TCU Doubles Team Falls in Heated Quarterfinal Match

ANN ARBOR, Mich.
TCU's Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini were defeated Friday morning in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. Abreu and Sestini, ranked No. 8 in the country, suffered a 9-8 loss to No. 34-ranked Scott Green and Ross Wilson from Ohio State in the quarterfinals.
Abreu and Sestini fell behind 3-0 in the tiebreaker but managed to come back and actually had a match point leading 6-5. The next three points, however, belonged to Green and Wilson to give them the 8-6 victory in the breaker. TCU's tandem was looking to give the Horned Frogs their seventh appearance in the semifinals since the tournament's inception in 1978 and their first since 1995.
"Rafael and Fabrizio had a good match," TCU assistant coach Cory Hubbard said. "They had match point and were right there to the end. It was a very intense match. They just came up a little short."
TCU's fall season was brought to a close with Abreu and Sestini's loss. The two ended the campaign with a record of 10-4. The Horned Frogs begin spring play over Jan. 13-15 at the Puerto Rico Invitational, which in addition to TCU features Illinois, Georgia Tech and California. The teams will play dual matches, however, the results will only count for individual records.
