Lugones, a junior on the men's tennis team, continued his undefeated start to the spring, earning two more victories at the ITA Kick-Off in Gainesville, Fla. On Saturday, the Buenos Aires, Argentina, native downed No. 35 Florida State's Marco Nunez, 6-2, 5-6 (9-11), 6-1 as the Horned Frogs advanced to the final round against No. 14 Florida. The following day, No. 118 Lugones defeated 28th-ranked Stephane Piro of the Gators, 6-3, 6-3.
Lugones has won all nine of his singles matches in 2014. He and his teammates will return to action Feb. 1-2 as they compete in the USTA Dallas Challenger.
Ventress, a junior guard on the women's basketball team, had one of her best games this season despite a loss to Oklahoma on Saturday. The junior from North Crowley High School led the way with 14 points, including a season-high four three-pointers on eight attempts. She also tied a season-high with three steals.
The women's basketball team will hit the hardwood again Wednesday night when No. 11 Oklahoma State comes to Fort Worth. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. CST.
