Preview: Tulsa

FORT WORTH, Texas – After over two weeks off, the No. 25 TCU men’s tennis team returns to action by welcoming Tulsa to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The Horned Frogs (5-2) and the Golden Hurricane (6-8) will begin competition at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday at the Bernard J. ‘Tut’ Bartzen Varsity Courts with free pizza courtesy of Buffalo Bros., served in between doubles and singles action. Fans can also take part in a prize court after doubles that is sponsored by Torchy’s Tacos.

TCU Notables
TCU enters the match on Wednesday after over two weeks off from competition. The last time the Horned Frogs were in action, they picked up a 6-1 win over USF and a 4-0 sweep of SMU. In the most recent Oracle/ITA team rankings, TCU sits at No. 25 to mark the 23rd week ranked inside the top-25.

Alastair Gray continues to lead the team in the Oracle/ITA rankings at No. 27 in the singles poll while Alex Rybakov and Trevor Johnson also have rankings at No. 42 and No. 47, respectively. Johnson is a perfect 6-0 on the season with three wins over ranked opponents while Rybakov has nine wins and a 4-1 mark in dual matches. Rybakov and Gray pair up for a No. 13 doubles ranking while Rybakov also sits at No. 57 with Guillermo Nuñez. Bertus Kruger and Reese Stalder lead the team in doubles action with a 5-2 mark including a 3-0 record at the No. 3 position.

Scouting the Golden Hurricane
Tulsa was riding a three-match winning streak before suffering a 4-3 loss to Wichita State last week. The Golden Hurricane have posted wins over Bryant, USF, Yale, Pine Bluff and Oral Roberts this season. Joshua Goodger leads the ranked players for Tulsa at No. 81 with a 17-6 overall mark and three wins over ranked opponents. Majed Kilani is the other ranked player at No. 119 with 17 wins as well as riding a four-match winning streak.

All-Time Series Records
Wednesday’s match against Tulsa marks the 26th meeting all-time between the programs with TCU holding a 13-12 advantage in the all-time series record. The Frogs have picked up the victory in the last four straight meetings dating back to 2015. Wednesday will be the 14th time the teams will face each other in Fort Worth with TCU holding the 9-4 advantage. Last year, TCU faced the Golden Hurricane in only the second match of the season in Tulsa with the Frogs coming away with a 4-0 sweep.
