TCU Looks to Slow Down Waves

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 51 TCU men’s tennis team will take a trip out to Malibu, Calif. to take on the No. 32 Pepperdine Waves on Saturday, Mar. 8.

The Horned Frogs (6-4) and the Waves (7-5) will play under the lights of the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center at 4 p.m., PST.

TCU Noteables
TCU is hoping to bounce back after dropping two closely contested battles to nationally ranked opponents Texas and Tulsa. No. 18 Nick Chappell and Will Stein picked up their second win over a top-10 ranked opponent when they upset No. 8 Soren Hess-Olesen and Lloyd Glasspool of Texas, while Arnau Dachs earned his first victory over a ranked opponent when he defeated No. 60 George Goldhoff of Texas.

Chappell and Stein have a 5-3 record in dual matches, but Dachs and partner Trey Daniel lead the team with a 6-1 record at No. 2 doubles. Hudson Blake and Facundo Lugones round out the doubles teams with a 3-0 record in dual matches.

Chappell and Lugones lead the team in the singles national rankings with Chappell checking in at No. 51, while Lugones is ranked No. 93. Dachs and Daniel lead the team record wise in singles matches, with the duo both posting a 7-2 record. Chappell and lone senior Rodolfo Bustamante follow right behind with 6-3 records.

Scouting the Waves
Pepperdine sits at 7-5 on the season and boasts a two-match winning streak headed into the match with the Frogs. Nine of the 12 opponents the Waves have faced were ranked in the top-75, as the team has posted four wins over ranked opponents this year.

No. 42 Alex Sarkissian leads the team with a 7-2 record at No. 1 singles and is 5-7 against nationally ranked opponents. Sarkissian and fellow senior Francis Alcantara have the team’s highest ranking at No. 7 in doubles action with a 9-3 record on the season. David Sofaer has Pepperdine’s final individual ranking of No. 103 at the No. 2 position in singles.

All-Time Series
Pepperdine leads the all-time series with a 17-4 record and have won the last five meetings between the teams, including a 5-2 victory last spring. TCU last defeated the Waves in 2004 at the Arizona State Quadrangle in Tempe, Ariz., with a 4-0 take down of Pepperdine.
