FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team is back in action Sunday when it plays hosts to California at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The 36th-ranked Horned Frogs are 12-4 on the year and have won five-straight matches. No. 24-ranked California is 7-6 this spring. First serve is set for 1 p.m. TCU is playing its third Pac-12 opponent of the season, having earlier defeated Stanford and Arizona.
Cal and TCU are meeting for just the sixth time in their histories, with the Golden Bears holding a 4-1 edge. The two schools last met in 2006 when Cal claimed a 5-2 win in Fort Worth. TCU is 1-1 against Cal in matches played in Fort Worth.
Senior Orlando Superlano leads the Frogs in singles, racking up a 13-2 record this season, mostly from the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Arnau Dachs, TCU’s No. 2 player, has an 11-3 record in the spring season. They are one five-match and four-match winning streaks, respectively.
In doubles, sophomores Nick Chappell and Will Stein are 9-3, including 5-3 from the No. 1 position. Dachs and Superlano have an 8-3 record from the No. 3 hole in the lineup, while Max Stevens and JT Sundling are 6-7.
For California, Campbell Johnson in the nation’s No. 47-ranked singles player, Ben McLachlan checks in at No. 57 and Christoffer Konigsfeldt holds the 63rd spot. Three Bear doubles teams are ranked nationally with Johnson and Konigsfeldt leading the way at No. 33.
