FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team returns to action Saturday when it hosts Texas at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
First serve is set for 1 p.m. from the Bartzen Varsity Courts for Saturday’s match. The 35th-ranked Horned Frogs are 16-6 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12 following a win over Oklahoma State and a loss to No. 11 Oklahoma. The No. 23 Longhorns are 13-6 and 1-1.
TCU is facing its former Southwest Conference and intra-state foe for the 44th time. The Longhorns hold a 26-17 edge in the series and have won the last six meetings. TCU last beat UT in 1996, which was its last year of competition in the SWC.
UT coach Michael Center spent two seasons as TCU’s head coach in 1999 and 2000. Both years he took the Frogs to the NCAA Tournament. TCU coach David Roditi was Center’s assistant at Texas for two seasons as well.
Nick Chappell is ranked 92nd in the ITA singles rankings with a spring season mark of 7-9. Sophomore with a 15-4 spring record, including four wins over ranked opponents. Senior Orlando Superlano has TCU’s top ledger in singles, racking up a 16-4 record.
Sophomores Chappell and Will Stein are ranked 69th in the doubles rankings with a 13-5 record this spring. TCU’s No. 3 duo of Dachs and Superlano has amassed an 11-4 record. The Frogs won the doubles point at OSU and dropped it at OU in their conference-opening weekend.
Soren Hess-Olesen leads the Longhorns in singles and is ranked No. 41. Sudanwa Sitaram and Daniel Whitehead are also ranked, checking at Nos. 96 and 99, respectively. Chris Camilone and David Holiner are ranked 25th in doubles for the Longhorns, while Sitaram and Whitehead are 78th.
TCU is hosting a Lettermen’s Day on Saturday for former TCU tennis players and will also have free pizza from Buffalo Bros., tacos from Salsa Limon and live music for fans. A fan tailgate is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. Live scoring for the match is available at the link on the top of this page.
