TCU Heads to Norman for Big 12 Championship

FORT WORTH -- TCU travels north to Norman, Okla., this weekend for its inaugural appearance at the Big 12 Men's Tennis Championship at OU's Headington Family Tennis Center. The No. 4 seed Horned Frogs open the tournament Friday with a 9 a.m. first-round match against fifth-seeded Texas Tech.

The winner of Friday's TCU-Tech tilt will advance on to face top seed Baylor at Noon on Saturday. The other side of the bracket features No. 3 Texas and No. 6 Oklahoma State playing a Noon match Friday for the right to meet No. 2 Oklahoma at Noon on Saturday. The championship is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Frogs, listed at No. 35 in the latest ITA national team rankings, enter their first Big 12 Championship with a 17-8 overall record. The squad earned the fourth seed for this weekend's conference tournament after posting 2-3 mark in league matches. TCU won its only regular-season meeting with Texas Tech back on April 19 in Fort Worth by a slim 4-3 margin. The match featured a monumental comeback by the Frogs in doubles that proved to be the difference in the match.

TCU will bring two individual national rankings into the weekend. Sophomore Nick Chappell is currently listed at No. 104 in singles, while he joins junior teammate Will Stein at No. 52 in the doubles rankings. Texas Tech, ranked No. 50 in the ITA national team ratings, currently has no rated individuals.

The winner of this weekend's Big 12 Championship will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The first and second rounds will be played May 10-12 at select campus regional sites. TCU is looking to guarantee itself an NCAA bid for the first time 2010.
