FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 10 ranked TCU men’s tennis doubles pair of Nick Chappell and Will Stein earned the automatic doubles bid for the Big 12 Conference for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis championships that will be held May 21-26 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

The duo are the 30th pair in TCU program history to be selected for the draw and were the highest ranked doubles team in the conference. Chappell, ranked No. 57 in the ITA singles poll, also earned an at-large bid in the singles draw of the championships. The junior is the 38th Horned Frog to earn a singles bid and first since Cosmin Cotet advanced in 2008.

Chappell and Stein posted 24 wins this season, brought down seven ranked opponents and were runner-up at No. 1 doubles in the Big 12. The duo started the year by reaching the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships and took out the No. 3 ranked team in the nation at the time. The pair were the first doubles tandem to make it to the semifinals since head coach David Roditi won the event with partner Paul Robinson in 1994.

The duo reached their career-high ranking of No. 10 after defeating then-No. 13 Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas for the second time of the season on April 5. Since that day, the pair have only dropped one match and helped secure the doubles point for TCU in the Big 12 Championships against Oklahoma with a victory over No. 29 Dane Webb and Andrew Harris.

Chappell was a constant presence at No. 1 singles for TCU this season and finished with a 21-16 overall record and five wins over ranked opponents. Chappell boosted his NCAA chances last weekend by recording the biggest upset of his career with a straight-set win over No. 5 Guillermo Alcorta of Oklahoma.

The junior from Indianapolis, Ind. has faced only the best in the country this season and reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 46 after upsetting then-No. 13 Harrison Adams of Texas A&M on March 22. Chappell also reached the semifinals of the main draw consolation bracket at ITA All-American Championships.
