FORT WORTH, Texas  – For the second year in a row, juniors Nick Chappell and Will Stein were named to the All-Big 12 Doubles Team, while Chappell also earned All-Big 12 Singles Team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The All-Big 12 tennis teams and awards are selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.

The 11th-ranked doubles pair of Chappell and Stein posted 24 wins in 2014, brought down seven ranked opponents and were runner-up at No. 1 doubles in the Big 12. The duo started the year by reaching the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championships and took out the No. 3 ranked team in the nation at the time. The pair were the first doubles tandem to make it to the semifinals since head coach David Roditi won the event with partner Paul Robinson in 1994.

The duo reached their career-high ranking of No. 10 after defeating then-No. 13 Lloyd Glasspool and Soren Hess-Olesen of Texas for the second time of the season on April 5. Since that day, the pair have only dropped one match and helped secure the doubles point for TCU in the Big 12 Championships against Oklahoma with a victory over No. 29 Dane Webb and Andrew Harris.

Chappell was a constant presence at No. 1 singles for TCU this season and finished with a 21-16 overall record and five wins over ranked opponents. Chappell boosted his NCAA chances at the Big 12 Championships by recording the biggest upset of his career with a straight-set win over No. 5 Guillermo Alcorta of Oklahoma.

The junior from Indianapolis, Ind. has faced only the best in the country this season and reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 46 after upsetting then-No. 13 Harrison Adams of Texas A&M on March 22. Chappell also reached the semifinals of the main draw consolation bracket at ITA All-American Championships.

Chappell and Stein’s season is not over, as the duo earned the conference’s automatic doubles bid for the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis championships, while Chappell also earned a spot in the singles bracket. The championships will be held May 21-26 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
