JOPLIN, Mo.—TCU rising junior Nick Chappell continued his run at the USTA Freeman Men's Futures Pro Circuit event Thursday, defeating Dekel Bar (Israel) in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals of the main singles draw at the Millennium Tennis and Fitness Club.

Chappell opened the main draw Wednesday with a huge victory, ousting the top American in the field, Eric Quigley (4-6, 6-4, 7-5). Quigley, who enterd the week ranked 515th in the world, was the runner-up finisher at the 2012 NCAA Singles Championship for Kentucky and earned five All-America honors in his college career between singles and double.

Thursday's victory was another impressive performance that should earn Chappell even more points toward boosting his ATP world ranking. Bar entered the week ranked No. 963 overall, but the Frogs' top singles player was able to easily dispatch him, 6-4, 6-3.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Chappell was an All-Big 12 selection in both singles and doubles as a sophomore this past season for the Horned Frogs. He finished the year ranked No. 120 nationally in singles and No. 42 in doubles along with partner Will Stein.

Chappell will next face either Fares Ghasya (Libya) or sixth-seeded Alex Blumenberg (Brazil) in Friday's quarterfinals. He also is competing this week in doubles alongside partner Darian King. The second-seeded duo will compete in the semifinals against Bar and Leon Frost on Thursday afternoon.
