TCU to Compete at ITA Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU men’s tennis team is set to kick-off the 2016 fall season by taking part in the first-ever Hall of Fame ITA Grass Court Invitational at the Bill Talbert Stadium Court at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I., from Sept. 16-18.

The tournament draws eight nationally ranked men’s and women’s teams to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island to compete in flighted singles and doubles round-robin for ITA Ranking Points. Defending national champion Virginia, along with top-25 finisher Michigan and Princeton will be on hand to take on the Horned Frogs.

The tournament will be free of charge and open to the public, as well as streamed live on FloTennis.

TCU will have six players take part in the event with seniors Jerry Lopez and Scott Martinson, along with juniors Guillermo Nuñez and Trevor Johnson and sophomores Reese Stalder and Gianni Mancini set to play this weekend.

TCU is coming off one of its most successful seasons in men’s tennis history, as the team won the regular season and tournament Big 12 Championship. The Frogs finished a program-high No. 3 in the final Oracle/ITA rankings, while Alex Rybakov became the first player in program history to be named ITA Men’s National Rookie of Year. Cameron Norrie earned his second singles All-America honors and became the first player in program history to advance to the singles Final Four at the NCAA Championships.
