FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team hosts the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships this weekend at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. Play begins at 8 a.m., Saturday.

Schools from across the state of Texas, which make us the ITA Texas Region, will be in Fort Worth for one of the fall’s premiere college tennis events. The Texas Region is one of 12 ITA regions that will send players to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Championships.

The winners of the singles and doubles draw advance to the aforementioned USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Championships, which are set for Nov. 8-10 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

TCU last sent players to the national indoors in 2004 when Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles draw.

Highlighting the singles entrants for the Horned Frogs is Nick Chappell, who recently advanced to the second round of a USTA Futures Event in Mansfield, Texas. He is ranked No. 77 in the ITA college tennis rankings. Newcomer Arnau Dachs has also been solid for the Frogs this fall, winning the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational.

Admission to all matches this weekend’s event at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center are free. Draws will be posted at the above link at 4 p.m., Friday.
