Four Frogs appear in top 20 of regional rankings

FORT WORTH, Texas - Four TCU men's tennis players were listed in the singles top 20 of the Fila/ITA fall South Central Regional rankings. Senior Cosmin Cotet led the Horned Frogs with a No. 4 ranking.
Cotet, a senior from Iasi, Romania, grabbed a preseason national ranking of No. 54 before the fall season began. Cotet went 4-2 in the first half of the season, defeating three ranked opponents, including No. 2 Steven Moneke of Ohio State.
TCU newcomer Adrian Simon earned a No. 11 regional ranking in singles play after posting a fall record of 5-3. Simon began the fall with a bang, defeating No. 60 Thomas Liversage of San Diego in the first round of the Baylor Intercollegiate. Simon also completed the first half of the season on a positive note, upsetting No. 34 Jerry Makowski of Texas A&M at the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships.
Fellow freshman Zach Nichols earned a No. 15 regional ranking after an impressive fall season. Nichols went 8-3 to tally the second-most wins on the team in the first half of the season. The Austin, Texas, native defeated No. 72 Milan Mihailovic of Texas and No. 61 Dominik Muller of Baylor en route to the quarterfinals of the Baylor Intercollegiate.
Kriegler Brink, a junior from Gauteng, South Africa, rounds out the Frogs in the singles rankings at No. 19. Brink led the team in the fall with a record of 9-4. Brink advanced to the quarterfinals of the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Championships after defeating No. 81 Ralph Knupfer of Rice and No. 93 Sinisa Markovic of Texas Tech.
The doubles tandem of Brink and Cotet also earned a regional ranking of No. 5. The Frog pair, who earned a preseason national ranking of No. 22, went 2-1 in the fall, defeating the No. 35 ranked Drake team of Dalibor Pavic and Maor Zirkin and the Illinois tandem of Brandon Davis and Ryan Rowe en route to the quarterfinals of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championshps. The freshman team of Nichols and Simon also earned a doubles regional ranking of No. 15.
The men's team will open the spring season on Jan. 18 when they will travel to Houston, Texas, for the Rice Indoor Tournament. The dual-match season will open on Feb. 6 when TCU will play host to UT-Arlington.
