Jan. 25, 2010
FORT WORTH, Texas - While the TCU Athletics Department enjoyed tremendous success on the field of play during the 2009 fall semester, the highest marks of achievement came in the classroom as the Horned Frogs student-athletes notched a departmental cumulative grade point average of 2.975, which is the highest since reporting began in the Fall of 1998.
"The TCU student-athletes posted the highest cumulative grade point average in 10 years during the fall semester," said Chris Uchacz, TCU Director of Academic Services. "What is even more impressive is that 58 percent of our student-athletes recorded a 3.00 grade point average this past fall semester, and we had 29 student-athletes walk across the stage and earn their diploma, including three former student-athletes as part of the NCAA Degree Completion Award. Our student-athletes should be commended for their outstanding work on the field as well as in the classroom as well as in the athletic arena."
This past semester, 15 athletic programs recorded a team GPA of 3.00 or higher while 16 teams notched a collective GPA of 2.90 or higher where as only five teams notched at least a 3.0 GPA during the 2003 fall semester. The All-Sport Team GPA for the 2009 fall semester was 2.965, which is up from 2.905 during the 2009 spring semester, which is also the highest mark since reporting began in the Fall of 1998.
Following the semester, 22 TCU student-athletes were recognized as recipients of the Fall TCU Scholar Award, which highlights full-time student-athletes who boast a perfect 4.00 grade point average. In addition, 25 percent of all TCU student-athletes recorded a grade point average of 3.50 or higher while 48 student-athletes were named to the 2009 Fall Dean's List by their respective colleges.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recognized the TCU women's soccer program for the fourth consecutive season as an All-Academic Team. Individually, Lizzy Karoly and Jackie Torda were recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America as honorable mention NSCAA Division I Scholar All-South Region Team.
