Game Quotes

TCU Head Coach, Jeff Mittie
Opening Statement:
“We really obviously struggled to score and get any type of offensive flow. It was really tough. Sims obviously controlled us from the beginning of the game. She gave our point guards a hard time and if our point guards are struggling you are going to have games like this.”

On TCU's effort:
“I think our effort is tied to our shots. We got off to a fine start and we felt things were at least manageable. They were very physical and we failed to make shots. That is going to be rough start in itself.”

On facing Baylor:
“I think when you look at their basketball team you can see why they went 40-0 last year. They have all the pieces. They are all veterans, have the best player in the country, have arguably the best point guard in the country and they are very disciplined with what they do. I knew our young group had not faced anything like that. We knew were going to have to hit some three’s, but you’re going to have to make a few.”

On what Brittany Griner means to women's basketball:
“Everybody wants to watch her play, as evidence by this crowd. They are curious, there is not anybody like her in our game. She is that kind of player. I have compared her to the Wilt Chamberlain of the women’s game. I thought she was very good and I thought there were stretches where it just looked easy to her.”

Closing Statement:
“There are going to be a lot of teams that Baylor does this too. I would have liked to have seen us play stronger and we didn’t. I told them by the time I am done with all these questions and back to the office my mind will be on having a great practice tomorrow. We have to go on to the next thing and get better.”

Baylor Head Coach, Kim Mulkey
Opening Statement:
“I thought the crowd was outstanding and I think TCU will find this to be true in this league. You don’t lead the country in fan attendance in women’s basketball as good as you do in the Big 12. I thought our fans turned out. I thought we did fine and I thought we saw more zone tonight than other games. You are always worried when you go on the road. I thought the environment and crowd was good and our kids responded.”

After the dunk:
“I don’t think the crowd left disappointted. They go to see the best of Baylor and they got to see everyone play. I think our defense was pretty decent. When you have a team who shoots as many three’s as TCU, you are going to have a lot of loose balls. How many times is a fan going to go to a women’s basketball game and see a dunk. I don’t even know how you describe it, it just happened so quickly.”

Baylor Center, Brittney Griner
On her dunk in the first half:

“I saw them both slide over and I was like yes here it comes. I knew that one was coming. I don’t think I was moving around enough before the dunk. This was probably my second ranked dunk in my career. I am used to dunking, so I don’t really think about it, but tonight I did.”
