TCU 54, Texas 48
Fort Worth, Texas
TCU head coach Jeff Mittie
"It was a heck of a game. Heck of a basketball game. Heck of a defensive game by both teams. Both teams fought hard and our team was really resilient. This group continues to grow and I thought they grew up coming into this game and the last two games on the road. We had to make a lot of defensive plays because our offense was tough all day long. We give Texas credit because they have an outstanding defensive team. They make things hard on you all day long, so you have to grind through it and I thought our group did."
TCU senior center Latricia Lovings
On what it meant to beat Texas:
"It means a lot. I actually started crying after the game. It was the first time in school history to beat Texas and coming into the game we knew how important it was to win this game."
TCU sophomore guard Jada Butts
On her role in win over Texas:
"I just want to do what I could and coach put me in for a reason. I was trying to rebound and do what he said to try to help us get a win. Lately my free throws haven't been so good, but I've been in the game trying to get better for games like this."
Texas head coach Karen Aston
"All of the credit needs to go to TCU today. I thought they played a tremendous game from an hunger standpoint, effort standpoint and they made some plays down the stretch. They were ready to play in the first half and we dug a hole that was difficult to climb out of."
Texas junior forward Nneka Enemkpali
On game performance:
"We came out really flat. We did not pay attention to detail, we lost a lot of gains that we wanted and wins within the game, especially rebounding shots and that is what really got to us."
On what did TCU do to prevent them from losing:
"We made the mistakes and I feel like we beat ourselves. In the first half we did not win the little games within the big game that we needed to win and in the second half, TCU continued to play with the same hunger and passion that they had in in the first half. Whenever we did get a lead, we would foul and put them back on the free throw line. They basically found ways to get themselves back into the game."
