Recap |  Final Stats

Oklahoma State 49, TCU 48
Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
Fort Worth, Texas

TCU head coach Jeff Mittie
Opening statement:

“Oklahoma State made a good play, (Roshunda) Johnson makes a huge shot there and you have to give her credit for that. I thought our group really fought. There was only one lapse in there at about the five or six minute mark where we had a two minute lapse and that was it. I really thought all night that this was a battle. I couldn’t be prouder of how they fought. They did everything we asked them to do and we just came up a little short.”

On the bond between the team:
“The one thing that I’ve noticed with this team that is different than other teams is that they care for each other. When they work that hard for a common goal, sometimes those emotions at the end come pouring out.”

On the team defense:
“I was impressed that we were able to improve our defense in the second half. I thought our defense was great. We got two shot clock violations in the last two and a half minutes and those are huge plays. We just came up one play short on this one.”

On Zahna Medley:
“That’s the toughest I have seen Zahna. What I told her in the locker room is exactly what I told you guys: we will take every game just like that in that situation and we are going to win most of them in that situation and she knows that she will be fine and she will bounce back. She is a kid who has a great personality and I know she will be smiling tomorrow. It’s tough right now but she is one of our leaders on our team and she will bounce back fine.”

TCU senior center Latricia Lovings
On the fierce competition during home games:

“We know coming into every home game that we protect home court. It means a lot because this is the last season in the DMC and we want to leave an impact on this court.”

On the hard fought game:
“We played hard and we expect to win, and this was a hard game to lose. We played so hard together as a team today and it is hard to lose in the way that we did. But it was a hard fought game.”

Oklahoma State head coach Jim Littell
Opening Statement:
“Obviously when you can get a grinded out win on the road, you feel very appreciative of that. TCU does such a great job of defending and when Coach Mittie plays that Syracuse zone or they switch it up and play man, they do a good job of keeping you off base. He’s got a lot of outstanding young players that just continue to get better from week to week and we know how tough they’re playing here. We knew how good they’ve been here at home and we’re happy to get the win.

“We had three or four really bad possessions and I was really pleased that our freshman had the courage to step up and make a key shot at the end of the game. We tell our players that every night there’s two things that can be there for you and it’s defense and rebounding. To hold TCU to 14 points in the second half was pretty special to us tonight. We had to do that because they were so difficult to score on.”

On Zahna Medley:
“I think Zahna Medley is a special player. I know she missed a free throw, but we were in a bad spot when they were going to the free throw line for one-on-one because I think that kid is pretty clutch in everything that she does. I remember watching when TCU played Texas on television and she just took the game over in the last four minutes. In this game, she hit a deep three, probably in the last two or three minutes. I just think she’s a clutch player and we’re fortunate that she missed that.”
