No. 24 TCU Falls at No. 3 Baylor
Feb. 10, 2018
WACO, Texas -- No. 24 TCU women's basketball played No. 3 Baylor even in the second half, but couldn't overcome a first-half deficit in an 83-63 loss at the Ferrell Center on Saturday night.
TCU (16-8, 7-6) was down by 11 points after one quarter and by 20 after two, due largely to some significant foul trouble, but played Baylor (23-1, 13-0) to an even score in final 20 minutes.
Jayde Woods led TCU with a career-high 14 points, including three 3-pointers. Amber Ramirez was just behind with 12 points. Kalani Brown led Baylor with 23 points while Lauren Cox added 16 and the two combined to make 15-of-21 shots.
TCU has lost three straight games, all against ranked teams. However, after they opened Big 12 play with a three-game skid, the Frogs responded with seven consecutive wins.
The Frogs made just 4-of-14 shots in the opening quarter while Baylor hit 8-of-14 and forced the Frogs into seven turnovers. The Frogs would get the deficit back to single digits with a Jayde Woods layup on the opening possession of the second quarter, but Baylor scored five straight after that and went on to push the lead to 20 points at halftime.
Baylor ended a fairly even third quarter on a 6-0 run, and then started the fourth on a 7-2 run. However, TCU responded with a 13-0 spurt midway through the fourth quarter and played the Bears to an even 39-39 score in the second half.
