Final Stats |
West Virginia 66, TCU 56
Daniel-Meyer Coliseum (Fort Worth, Texas)
Jeff Mittie, TCU Head Coach
On if the Oklahoma State game had an affect:
"No, it was fine. That didn't have anything to do with this. We just didn't get enough good shots. You can't have eight assists and 20 turnovers. Its two things, not finishing plays at the end of the pass and not passing the ball effectively. We turned it over and missed lay-ups. Actually, practice had been better because people were visualizing that win, so there wasn't any hangover.
On the turnovers:
"We turned it over way too much."
Natalie Ventress, TCU Guard
On the physicality of the game:
"I definitely feel like they were more aggressive here than they were in Morgantown.
On the second half:
"We are a young team, so I just keep telling the freshman to just keep shooting the ball and it will eventually go in."
On the spark at the end of the game:
"The defensive energy went up for us, which helped spark our offense."
On handling the energy of the game:
"When things are going bad, we have to be mentally tough and play smarter. Really, that is all there is to it."
Mike Carey, West Virginia Head Coach
On what he told his team after the game:
"We play again Tuesday against Kansas State, so I just told them that it wasn't pretty and that we have a lot of stuff to work on."
On Bria Holmes coming in in the second half:
"Yeah she can score for us. Our last game against Iowa State she had 18. She can come off of the bench and score in bunches. She did a good job. I thought Jess Harlee off the bench did a really good job for us as well
They have a young team. We have to give TCU a lot of credit. They are very young and very young at each position. They play extremely hard and they are well coached. We feel very fortunate to get out of here with a win, very fortunate."
On utilizing the turnovers:
"We create a lot of turnovers. I thought the first half we had a lot of chances and never scored. Most of the time we threw it away and didn't get a shot. We didn't do a good job. Again, I'm just happy to get out of here with a win."
