TCU Head Coach Jeff Mittie

Opening Statement:
“Pretty sloppy game from our end. They did a great job of mixing things up against us and kept our guards really uncomfortable for most of the day. I think it had an effect on Zahna Medley in terms of her comfort level today."

"Obviously, you have to survive a couple of those throughout the year and we did that. I thought Ashley Colbert gave us some good minutes. Latricia Lovings was sick so she did not go through shoot-around this morning. We got just enough out of her to give Ashley a little more breaks. We did start her because sometime players are sick and they all of the sudden get in the game and feel better, but that didn’t happen with LT. She never felt really good. She said before the game that she did not have much energy. Colbert was huge because we needed someone in there particularly with Thompson being such a factor.

On TCU’s performance:
“We didn’t shoot it very well. Houston was playing some zone, rotating hard to people and never really went man against us. I just didn’t feel like we ever looked great against them on the offensive end. Some of that is just being young. We haven’t played a team that’s gone zone against us. We need to get through it. The shooting numbers look horrible. I thought Veja Hamilton gave us some great minutes today. She has no assists but there were numerous times I can say she really did a great job of getting in the paint and finding people. She made the pass that led to the pass that led to the score. That’s not going to show up on here but it will show up on film. We got some contributions. I thought Delisa Gross had a good game. The bench, Whitney Williams and Meagan Henson both hit threes in the first half and those were big because Zahna isn’t going to hit nine threes in every game. We hit eight as a team today and we have five different players do it.”

On out-rebounding at home:
“We knew it was going to be a challenge with Yasmeen Thompson because she came in averaging about four and a half offensive boards a game. She only got two against us. I thought we rebounded by committee pretty well today.”
