TCU head coach Jeff Mittie
On game momentum
"I thought we got off to a great start in the game and then we hit a lull and we couldn't rebound the ball well enough. I didn't like our rebounding, but I think we did what we needed to do. These games are interesting over the break, sometimes you see some funny scores and obviously with the third game in six days you get a little tired but I thought our group had decent energy. We had a lot of people score in this one I would have liked to see us share the ball better early in the game. Things came too easy for us early in the game and then Sam Houston did a really nice job on us and we struggled with that at times."
On second half tempo
"We have to rebound the ball better and that allowed us to push the tempo. My problem with the second half was our fouls on defense and it turned into a free throw contest for them and they were shooting too many free throws. We still need to clean up some things, but I feel like we've improved. I think our group has really improved as a basketball team and I certainly feel like we are a better basketball team."
On Zahna Medley's performance
"She got off to a great start with the threes which caused them to change their defensive coverage. She did a good job in the paint getting the floater and getting to the free throw line and I've said all along that's why she's so good. You take away one part of the game to play her defensively and she can get in another part of her game and be very good. I thought she had very good pace today."
Senior center Latricia Lovings
On offensive flow
On heading into conference play
"We run through the plays everyday in practice and running defense against the scout team has really helped us play together."
"We are really excited. Of course we have to take it one game at a time and we can't look past the game on the 28th because of conference. We are excited to play against the Big 12 girls. We struggled last year but we are ready to show that we have become a better team and are playing as one."
Sophomore guard Zahna Medley
"I felt good coming out and hitting the first couple threes. I don't think I shot really great from the three point line but making some of my layups and making some of my free throws helped with my confidence."
On team growth
"We've gotten a lot better compared to last year. But we have experience from playing with each other and basically having all of the same starters on the floor over the last year has helped us learn from each other and that's why we are playing a lot better."
