Jan. 31, 2018

FORT WORTH, Texas – Ryan Camp of men’s track and field and Kianna Ray of women’s basketball have been named TCU’s Athletes of the Week.

Camp, a sophomore thrower from Lawrenceville, Ga., set a school record in the weight throw on Saturday at the New Mexico Team Invitational. The previous record, set by teammate Isaiah Rogers, was 63 feet 3.5 inches, and Camp threw 64 feet 3.25 inches on Saturday. Camp ranks No.4 in the Big 12 and No.9 in the South Central region.

Camp and the track and field team continue the season on Saturday at the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M.

Ray, a sophomore guard from Austin, Texas, led TCU to a pair of wins last week, starting with a road victory over Kansas State. She scored eight points and added six assists against the Wildcats. She made some clutch plays down the stretch, including a steal on a K-State inbound pass as TCU led by three points with less than 15 seconds to play. Ray completed the week with 11 points and four assists in TCU’s win over Oklahoma in which she played all 40 minutes. Ray averages 8.6 points, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She ranks sixth in the Big 12 in assists while her 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks third.

Ray and the women’s basketball team travel to Austin on Saturday to take on Texas. Tipoff is scheduled for 12 p.m.
