Preview: at #8 Texas
AUSTIN, Texas -- No. 22 TCU women's basketball puts its seven-game winning streak on the line on Saturday against No. 8 Texas at the Frank Erwin Center at 12 p.m.
TCU (16-5, 7-3) has its longest winning streak since 2010-11 and is coming off of a dominant 75-52 win at Iowa State on Tuesday night. Texas (17-4, 8-2) is one game ahead of TCU in the Big 12 standings after a 55-41 win at Kansas on Wednesday.
Saturday will mark this season's second meeting between the Frogs and Longhorns. TCU won the first meeting, 79-77, over then-No. 7 Texas in Fort Worth on Jan. 10. That was the second game in TCU's current seven-game winning streak.
How to Follow
Last Time Out
TCU got 25 points from Jordan Moore, the most in a Big 12 game in the junior's career. She made 8-of-14 shots and 9-of-9 free throws and also contributed six boards as the Frogs outrebounded Iowa State by 17, 41-24.
Amber Ramirez added 12 points for the Frogs and was one of three with a team-high three assists. Toree Thompson returned after missing the last two games with injury and scored eight points. TCU has won seven straight conference games for the first time since 2008.
2. TCU has already won two games against ranked teams and will be looking for a third on Saturday. The Frogs have beaten three ranked teams in a season just twice, and they have never done so four times. TCU has also never had a three-game winning streak against ranked teams, something it can accomplish with a win at Texas.
3. TCU leads the Big 12 in 3-point percentage at 37.9 percent and in free throw percentage at 78.2 percent. The Frogs rank second in field goal percentage at 46.5 percent and are the only team to rank in the top two in all three percentages. TCU also ranks in the NCAA's top 20 in all three.
The Longhorns rank third in the Big 12 in scoring offense (82.0) and scoring defense (62.5) while ranking second in the nation in rebounding margin (+12.4).
Texas features a balanced attack with Ariel Atkins, Lashann Higgs and Brooke McCarty all averaging between 13.0 and 15.0 points per game. At 5.9 rebounds per game, Atkins leads four Longhorns that average 5.0 or more.
Saturday's game will be the first in series history in which TCU is nationally ranked.
