Feb. 16, 2017

FORT WORTH, Texas – Four TCU women’s basketball student-athletes were named Academic All-Big 12, including three on the first team, the league office announced on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Adeola Akomolafe (Movement Science), senior Jada Butts (Sports Broadcasting) and sophomore Amy Okonkwo (Sports Psychology) were all first-team selections while senior Carol Willie (Psychology) was a second-team selection. Butts is one of just seven players in the Big 12 to earn the honor for a third time.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

The Frogs return home to host No. 24 Kansas State on Saturday at 3 p.m. It will be TCU's annual Play4Kay game as the Frogs will wear pink uniforms and help raise awareness in the fight against women's cancers.

TCU will auction off those jerseys on GoFrogs.com after the game with proceeds going to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. The Frogs will also give away pink Play4Kay shirts to the first 1,000 fans at Schollmaier Arena.
