Medley Earns Big 12 All-Tournament Team Honors
March 11, 2014
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - TCU women's basketball sophomore guard Zahna Medley was named to the 2014 Phillips 66 Big 12 All-Tournament Team on Monday evening for her performances over the weekend against Texas Tech and No. 7 West Virginia.
Medley was the lone student-athlete selected from a team outside of the two championship game contenders, joining West Virginia's Asya Bussie and Bria Holmes and Baylor's Odyssey Sims and Nina Davis, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Medley registered perhaps the greatest performance of her young career in Saturday's near upset of the seventh-ranked Mountaineers, posting season highs of 32 points and six 3-pointers while going 10-of-12 from the free-throw line. The 32-point performance ranks as the sixth-most in a Big 12 Championship contest, while the six treys place as the fourth most. Both marks are TCU records in conference tournament action.
The Springfield, Ill., native tied with junior guard Natalie Ventress for a team-best 18 points in TCU's opening-round win over Texas Tech on Friday. Medley sank two long-range buckets against the Red Raiders, with her second giving TCU its first double-digit lead and the 11th-straight point for the Frogs with under nine minutes to play.
In the two contests, Medley averaged 25.0 points while shooting 42 percent (14-of-33) from the field, 44 percent (8-of-18) from 3-point range and 88 percent (14-of-16) from the charity stripe.
The All-Big 12 First-Team selection has built one of the greatest seasons in program history, ranking fourth all-time in points (541) and 3-pointers (76) and fifth in field goals (180).
