FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie announced Thursday afternoon the signing of Houston native Caitlin Diaz to the incoming freshman class for the 2012-13 season.

“Caitlin is a physical forward who attacks the offensive glass,” said Mittie. “She is a great fit for our program as we move forward into the Big 12 Conference next season.”

Diaz, a four-time first team all-district honoree and three-star rated recruit, will don the Purple and White next fall after completing a successful senior campaign at Tomball High School in Houston. The McDonald’s All-America nominee was ranked as the 34th-best forward according to ESPN/HoopGurlz. She was also rated as the No. 18 ranked player in the state of Texas according to Premier Basketball Report.

The 6-foot-1 forward, who was recently named to the All-Greater Houston all-star squad, averaged 19.6 points per game during her senior season, while averaging 10.0 boards a contest. Diaz, who earned multiple academic all-state honors, also excelled on the volleyball court during her high school career as she was a three-time first team all-district selection as well as an all-state TAPPS 4A honoree in 2011.

TCU has been one of the most successful women's basketball programs in the entire country under Mittie as they have played in 11 postseason appearances in 12 years, while also going to nine NCAA Tournaments during that stretch. The Frogs have also collected six conference championships and will be a member of arguably the toughest women's basketball conference in the entire country next season in the Big 12.
