Ventress Preparing For Encore Presentation

Natalie Ventress (24)

July 20, 2012

FORT WORTH, Texas- Following a banner freshman season, sophomore Natalie Ventress recently sat down with to share what she has been up to the last couple of months.

Ventress, a first team all-conference selection in 2011-12, put together a freshman campaign that quite arguably could go down as one of the most successful freshman seasons' in Horned Frog history. She became the first Horned Frog to earn Mountain West Freshman of the Year since former Frog and current professional Helena Sverrisdottir did so in 2007-08. By collecting first team accolades, she not only became the first Horned Frog in program history to earn first team MW honors as a true freshman, but also the first in the Mountain West since Utah's Kim Smith did so during her rookie campaign in 2002-03.

In all, Ventress, who scored in double-figures in 11 of the 14 conference games and 18 overall, was the only freshman in the conference and one of only two players overall to have six games of 20 or more points during conference play. Ventress, who finished the regular season ranked No. 15 amongst all freshman scorers in the NCAA and No. 8 in conference games only nationally, led TCU in scoring 18 times, including seven games of 20 or more.

TCU has been one of the most successful women's basketball programs in the entire country under Jeff Mittie as they have played in 11 postseason appearances in 12 years, while also going to nine NCAA Tournaments during that stretch. The Frogs have also collected six conference championships and will be a member of arguably the toughest women's basketball conference in the entire country this season in the Big 12.

Ventress Talks About Summer
"For the summer that I did have, I slept and went swimming a lot, but mostly slept to catch up on rest before the season gets here. Our voluntary workouts have been great and our goal for the summer is to become together as one. Everyone is really working hard to get better and I think Ashley Colbert has really improved the most over the summer.

Individually, I have been working on getting my shot off faster. I have also worked on tightening up my ball handling.

The freshman class is a piece of work, but in a good way! They all work really hard and have a great sense of humor.

The Big 12 Conference is great for us. It's our chance to compete against some of the best teams in the country. We have no choice but to perform at the highest level and to the best of our ability."
