FEATURED: Coleman Family's Special Night

TCU women’s basketball returned to Schollmaier Arena on Thursday night with the first home event of the 2017-2018 season; an exhibition against cross-town opponent, Texas Wesleyan.
While the onset of a fresh season is always cause for excitement, it’s fair to say one family in particular enjoyed the night a little more than everyone else.
TCU senior Sydney Coleman matched up across from her younger sister, Taylor Coleman, a sophomore guard for Texas Wesleyan, for the first time in their careers.
Their mother, Kelly, and father, Todd, were in the crowd to see their daughters take the court against each other, staying on the edge of their seats as Sydney and Taylor went up and down the floor.
Growing up, their parents said the two sisters couldn’t have been more opposite, and Sydney echoed that sentiment.
“Taylor’s more chill, more relaxed, she’s more observant,” Sydney said. “I’m the opposite, I’m all over the place.”
Despite the difference in personality, Kelly said the Cypress, Texas, natives are closer now that they’re in college in the same town than they’ve ever been.
After the game when the parents were asked what the experience was like to see Sydney and Taylor on opposing college teams, they responded simultaneously with the same word: surreal.
“I was actually trying to fight back tears,” Todd said. “First of all, you have two girls in college getting their degree. And then to be able to play the game they love…and before Sydney graduates this year they actually get a chance to get on the court together.”
“It was just amazing to see both of them because this will never happen again,” Kelly said.
Sydney laughed and said she knew her parents were smiling from ear to ear the entire time she and her sister were on the court together, and talked about what the experience meant to her.
“It’s come full circle,” Sydney said. “We went to middle school together, we went to high school together and now we’re playing against each other in college. It’s really special.”
Safe to say the night was about much more than points and rebounds for the Coleman family.
