Amber Ramirez Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

Dec. 5, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU women's basketball guard Amber Ramirez was named the Big 12 Women's Basketball Co-Freshmen of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Ramirez, who shared the honor with Kansas State's Peyton Williams, averaged 12.5 points in TCU's two games last week. She scored a season-best 19 points, including 5-of-8 3-pointers, in the Frogs' win over Butler. She also added six points in TCU's loss at LSU.

The San Antonio, Texas native has made a 3-pointer in all seven games of her career. She is eighth in the Big 12, and first among freshmen with 2.3 made 3-pointers per game. Ramirez is sixth in 3-point percentage at .485 with more attempts than four of the five players in front of her.

Ramirez is the first Horned Frog to earn Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors since Zahna Medley, the program's all-time leading scorer, did so four times in 2012-13.

Ramirez and Frogs return to play on Thursday when they host No. 19 Texas A&M at Schollmaier Arena for a 7:30 p.m. contest that will be broadcast on FS1.
