Mikayla Christian Earns Big 12 Honor

Dec. 27, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU women's basketball guard Mikayla Christian was named the Big 12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Christian scored a game-high 19 points in TCU’s 95-39 win over Alcorn State last week. The Round Rock, Texas, native hit 5-of-7 from long range to lead TCU to its third straight win.

The season-high 19 points came after Christian had scored 20 points in the season’s previous 10 games combined. She hit 6-of-8 from the field overall and also added three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Her shooting effort was part of a school-record 67.3 percent (35-of-52) that the Frogs shot on their way to the largest win in Raegan Pebley’s three seasons.

Christian is the second Frog to earn Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining Amber Ramirez who earned the award earlier in December.

The Frogs (8-3) open Big 12 play on Thursday when unbeaten No. 12 West Virginia visits Schollmaier Arena for a 6:30 p.m. contest.
