TCU Announces Three Women's Basketball Signings

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's basketball head coach Jeff Mittie announced Wednesday the signing of three student-athletes to early national letters of intent to play for the 2012-13 season.

The trio is comprised of two Texas natives and one from Illinois. Overall, the TCU class is a consensus Top 50 class nationally, while two of the three future Frogs rank in the top 50 amongst all high school players for their respective positions according to ESPN/HoopGurlz.

"We were able to get three quality players in this recruiting class," said Mittie. "We wanted to improve our guards and our shooting ability with this class and I think we were able to do that. Overall, I am very pleased with this class. We feel like these three will really fit well within our program and university."

Inking with the Frogs on Wednesday were shooting guard Kamy Cole (5-9, SG, Brock, Texas (Brock High School)), combo guard Veja Hamilton (5-10, SG/F, Spring, Texas (Klein Collins High School)) and point guard Zahna Medley (5-6, PG, Springfield, Ill. (Springfield High School)).

Cole, a four-star rated recruit out of Brock High School, will don the Purple and White next season after ranking as the No. 46 overall rated guard nationally according to ESPN/HoopGurlz. She also ranks as the No. 14 rated player in the state of Texas according to Premier Basketball Report. Cole, who is currently No. 42 among all guards in the nation according to the Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Report, is a three-time all-state and all-region selection. She heads into her senior campaign following a junior year in which she led the Lady Eagles to their third-straight 2A state championship, while also garnering district and state tournament MVP accolades. Cole, who sits as the No. 159 rated player nationally according to Mike White All-Star Girls Report, has also excelled on the track at Brock High School as she was the Class 2A district and regional champion in the 1,600 meters. Overall, Cole, who is the No. 183 rated player in the country by Collegiate Girls Report, currently has seven state championships to her name and has helped the Lady Eagles capture three different state championships in three different sports, which include basketball, cross country and track and field. She averaged 20.4 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game a year ago, which helped her garner All-Parker County Co-MVP accolades.

"We got a very athletic player in Kamy Cole," said Mittie. "She can shoot the deep three and will play all over the floor for us."

Hamilton, who is ranked as high as the No. 18 overall rated wing in the country according to ESPN/HoopGurlz, is a four-star rated combo guard out of Klein Collins High School in Spring, Texas. She currently sits as the 73rd best player in the country and the No. 16 ranked small forward nationally according to Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Report. The No. 12 rated player overall in the state of Texas via Premier Basketball Report, Hamilton is a three-time all-district selection, while also earning back-to-back district MVP accolades. Hamilton, a four-year starter for Klein Collins High School, also currently sits as the No. 154 rated player overall in the nation by Mike White All-Star Girls Report. She heads into her senior season as the schools all-time leading points holder after averaging 21.8 points per game during her junior campaign and amassing over 700 points last season. Hamilton has also excelled in the classroom the past couple of years, earning all-academic team selection three-straight years, while also graduating two years ahead of her class.

"Veja is a player that can play all over the floor and is a great shooter," said Mittie. "She has one of the best pull-up jumpers we saw all summer."

Medley, a two-time first team 3A all-state selection out of Springfield, Ill., will make her way to Fort Worth next fall after being named the Player of the Year by multiple outlets during her junior season. She is currently rated as a three-star rated recruit by ESPN/HoopGurlz and is 90th overall by position nationally. Medley, who is considered the 155th best player in the country and No. 33 amongst point guards overall by Dan Olson Collegiate Girls Report, has garnered all-state honors each of the past two season's by the Chicago Sun Times, including second-team accolades a year ago. Medley is also rated as the 170th best player nationally according All-Star Girls Report after leading Springfield High School to a 33-2 record and a IHSA Class 3A third-place finish during her junior campaign. She averaged 21.9 points per game and nearly 4.0 assists a year ago, while shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor, including 44.3 percent from behind the arc.

"Zahna is a point guard out of Illinois that will be able to shoot the deep three for us as well," said Mittie. "She will bring great athleticism to our team."

TCU, who is receiving votes in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, opens the 2011-12 women's basketball season Friday night as the Horned Frogs travel to Athens, Ga., to face No. 12/13 ranked Georgia.
