FRESNO, Calif.- No. 9 TCU claimed a 5-3 decision in Hunt Seat Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the Horned Frogs fell to Fresno State, 9-7, on the first day of competition at the Best In The West Invitational.

The Horned Frogs, now 2-8 on the year overall, made quick work of the Lady Bulldogs, who are receiving votes in the national poll, in Hunt Seat, sweeping Equitation over Fences, 4-0. Freshman and California native Demi Stiegler led the way for the Frogs, earning not only her first collegiate victory, but also her first MVP accolade of her young career. With the win, the Hunt Seat squad improved their season record to 3-4-2 on the year.

"This was a really nice way to kick off the spring semester for us," said Hunt Seat head coach Logan Fiorentino. "I'm very happy to come away from our competition against Fresno State with a win. We rode well today, but we need to continue to eliminate the little mistakes. I look forward to watching this team take on a good Tennessee-Martin squad tomorrow."

Stiegler defeated Hillary West, 82-68, while Alicia Turner made quick work of Kimberly Hewson Budnik with a 64-25 victory at the Bulldogs' Student Horse Center. Kaitlin Perry and Haley Jacobi were also victorious in the event, scoring decisions over Dayle Fischer and Holly Elsbernd, respectively. With the win, Jacobi claimed her seventh victory on the season, while Perry garnered her second win on the year.

Jacobi continued her impressive showing in California in Equitation on the Flat with an 80-75 downing of Kimberly Steinbuch.

On the Western side, the Frogs had a rough first day of competition as Fresno State scored a 6-2 decision.

In Horsemanship, Alexie Estrada moved to 6-2-1 on the season with a 74-71 victory over Kirsten McKillop. Senior Courtney Chown and freshman Samantha Bayer appeared to have scored points for the Frogs in the event, but fell slightly to Allie Warkentin and Sammie Jo Stone, respectively.

Bayer came back in Reining and scored TCU's lone point, defeating Christa Beezly. Alexi Child tried to secure another point for the Frogs in the event, but came up short to Ciara Kozlowski, falling 72.5-72.

The Horned Frogs will return to action Sunday against nationally ranked Tennessee-Martin.
