No. 3 TCU Falls to No. 7 SMU, 9-8

SPRINGTOWN, Texas - In a meet that came down to the final moments, No. 3 TCU claimed three MOP honors Friday afternoon, but fell to No. 7 SMU at Turning Point Ranch, 9-8.

The Rundown
The Horned Frogs posted a 6-3 victory in Western Friday, which included a 3-1 showing in Reining. Senior Brooke Boyle led the way in the discipline, scoring a 71.5-70 victory over Madison Steed en route to posting MOP accolades. Carley Montemuro and freshman Carly Lombard were also victorious, downing Kegan Snively and Holly Lansidel, respectively. Sophomore Meloney Morris appeared to have scored a point for the Purple and White, but ended up battling Jaclyn White to a 71-71 draw.

In Horsemanship, Rylee Morgan posted her second MOP of her career Friday, defeating Michaela Dinger, 74.5-72. Freshman Jamie Cook rode Jake to a 73.5-72.5 decision over Ashley Mauney, while sophomore Marah Huston closed out the top-performers, downing Morgan Redwine.

On the Hunt Seat side, returning All-America honoree Molly Peddicord opened her 2016-17 debut with a 76-74 victory over Vivian Yowan in Equitation on the Flat. Junior Carley Barnett, a Pilot Point native, secured only her second MOP of her career in the discipline, upending Nora Gray, 79-66. Returning All-American's Jayme Omand and Kari Hancock both scored ties versus Sylvia de Toledo and Alexandra Murphy, respectively.

In Equitation over Fences, Omand just missed scoring a point for TCU, falling to Gray, 81-80. Freshman Patty Gill also couldn't crack the scoring column, dropping a hard-fought 79-77 decision to de Toledo.

"We started today without the energy we needed and it cost us the meet. However, we can't look past the many accomplishments and positive moments we had from both disciplines today. We have a good amount of time to tweak some things before we head to Fresno State next month. Hats off to SMU on the win today."

• TCU moved to 0-1 on the season with the loss.
• TCU claimed three out of the four MOP's Friday.
• TCU has now won two out of the last three against the Mustangs.
• TCU is 16-6 overall during the regular-season in Springtown since 2012-13.
Rylee Morgan claimed her second MOP of her career.
Carley Barnett posted her second MOP of her career in Flat.
Brooke Boyle recorded her first MOP since 2013-14 Friday.

No. 3 TCU will have about a month off before traveling to No. 9 Fresno State on Oct. 21. The Frogs will open league play on Nov. 5 versus No. 6 Oklahoma State in Springtown.
