Western Leads No. 7 TCU at Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. - No. 7 TCU claimed a 4-3 decision in Western Friday afternoon, but narrowly dropped a 9-7 outing to No. 5 Kansas State at Timbercreek Stables.
Simply put, the Horned Frogs, who moved to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12, outscored K-State in Western, 721-715.5. The Frogs couldn't be stopped in Reining Friday, downing the Wildcats, 3-1. The Frogs outscored K-State in the event, 355-351.5.
Kolby Simonson, a senior from Colorado, led the way for the Purple and White Friday in Reining, scoring a 73-71 victory over Savannah Smith. Freshman Chantz Stewart was also victorious in the event, upending Jordan Cox, 69.5-68.5. The win, marked Stewart's third-straight win on the year. Finally, Alexi Child moved to 2-1 overall with a 72-71 decision over Sam Etsell. Sophomore Katelyn Gray appeared to have scored a point for the Frogs, but came up just short, falling 68-67.5 to Kara Guy.
In Horsemanship, TCU appeared to be on its way to a hard earned victory Friday, but couldn't overcome two draws as Kansas State posted a 2-1 victory in the event. Overall, the Frogs outscored the Wildcats on the day, 366-364.
Returning All-America honoree Alexie Estrada scored the lone point for the Purple and White in Horsemanship, upending Rachel Wetherell, 72.5-68. Estrada is now 2-1 on the young season. Sophomore's Samantha Bayer and Calli Rouse also had successful rides Friday. Bayer posted a score of 74.5, while Rouse rode to 74-74 draw against Kelly Bovaird.
On the Hunt Seat side, TCU narrowly missed defeating K-State in Equitation on the Flat, ending competition in a 2-2 draw. Sophomore Demi Stiegler moved to 3-0 on the young season, defeating Kali Yates, 78-74. Caitlin Ader was also victorious on the Flat, dropping Rachel Webster, 77-76. Kaitlin Perry rounded out the Frogs top performers in the event, battling Jacquelyn Bogstad to a 76-76 draw.
Perry, a sophomore from California and returning All-America honoree, was the lone Frog to score a point in Equitation over Fences Friday, defeating Shana Barnett, 80-74.
TCU will continue Big 12 action tomorrow at Oklahoma State. Start time is set for 10:00 p.m. CT.
