Horned Frogs Cruise Past West Texas A&M Saturday

HUDSON OAKS, Texas - The TCU equestrian program opened its home schedule in a big way Saturday, downing West Texas A&M, 17-2.

In all, the Horned Frogs simply dominated the Buffaloes at October Hill Farm, capturing all four MVP accolades, while also outscoring the Lady Buffs, 1,502- 1,374.

TCU made quick work of West Texas A&M in Hunt Seat Saturday, outscoring the Buffaloes, 786-686, en route to a 9-1 victory in the event. Overall, freshman Kaitlin Perry and junior Callie Selchau both garnered MVP accolades. Selchau, a returning All-America honoree, has now won four MVP's on the season, while Perry is 5-2-0 on the season in Equitation on the Flat.

Taylor Frederick got the Frogs going in Equitation on the Flat, defeating Tabatha Taylor, 77-69. Emily Maloof and Selchau were also victorious in the event with decisions over Amy Michem and Sarah Schmitt, respectively. Perry, a California native, recorded her first MVP of her young career by riding Ella to an 89-64 decision over Sage Hanner. Junior Haley Jacobi secured the Horned Frog sweep in the event with a 90-76 victory over Jessica Bass.

In Equitation over Fences, Jacobi continued her winning ways on Saturday, downing Olivia Ron, while Alicia Turner captured a 72-67 victory over Kayla Reeves. Senior Victoria Lee moved to 1-0 on the season with an 80-78 decision over Amy Mitchem. Finally, Selchau, who claimed her first MVP in Fences Saturday, rode TJ to an 83-64 victory over Bass.

The Horned Frogs were just as dominate in Western Saturday, posting an 8-1 decision, while outscoring the Lady Buffs, 716-688. Courtney Chown and Samantha Bayer led the way for the Frogs by claiming both MVP awards in the home opener.

Chown, a Pilot Point native, got back to her winning ways in Horsemanship Saturday, scoring a 77-74 decision over Paige Frevert. With the win, Chown, a returning All-America honoree, recorded her first MVP of the fall campaign. Also victorious for the Frogs was Taylor Prince, who posted a 75.5-73 victory over Julia Roberts. With the win, the sophomore, who has still only lost twice in her career and improved her season record to 5-1-0, has now won four-straight games. Alexie Estrada and Kate Peterson rounded out the Frog scoring by defeating Sage Hanner and Lindsay Rafter, respectively.

In Reining, junior Kolby Simonson improved her season record to 5-1-0 with a 73-71.5 victory over Hannah Welter. Carrie Schimpff and Alexi Child were also victorious, downing Roberts and Christa Forsbe, respectively. Bayer captured her first MVP of the young season with a 66.5-60.5 decision over Tabatha Taylor.

With the win, TCU, who is receiving votes in the national poll, moved to 1-6 on the year, while West Texas A&M dropped to 0-2 on the season.

The Horned Frogs will continue their home stand Sunday with a match-up against No. 5 Oklahoma State at October Hill Farm.
