Nicole Barnes receives AQHA award
March 8, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas--Nicole Barnes has received the 2006 Sooner All-Around Amateur award at the American Quarter Horse Association convention in Houston.
The award is given to the amateur who has accumulated the most points in shows competed in as an individual, thus Barnes' TCU events did not affect her status in the minds of the committee.
Barnes earned a total of 686 points in five events to win the honor, while also being named the high point winner in Showmanship at Halter as well as Horsemanship, an event she currently competes in for the Frogs.
"Winning this award is significant to my career in the horse industry," Barnes said. "I have spent countless hours training and working with my horse in order to win this award."
This is not the first time Barnes has been recognized as the best amateur. In 2004, she received the Markel Insurance All-Around Youth award, the same award as the Sooner but for a different age division.
"Being named the All-Around Amateur is something that only a few people achieve in their lifetime," Barnes said. "I am so lucky that it has happened to me, especially at such an early period in my life."
The Lady Frogs enjoy another three weeks off before returning to action Saturday, March 31, in Mansfield against South Carolina. All action can be followed on gofrogs.com.
