TCU Earns Big 12 Honors Saturday Afternoon

March 29, 2014

WACO, Texas – TCU Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield was honored as the 2014 Big 12 Coach of the Year Saturday afternoon following competition at the Big 12 Championship in Waco.

Schoolfield led the Horned Frogs to a 3-3 conference mark this season, garnering victories over Baylor, Kansas State and Oklahoma State. By being honored Saturday afternoon, Schoolfield became the first TCU head coach to receive Coach of the Year accolades in the Big 12 Conference.

"I am so blessed to have been nominated for the award by my peers. The Big 12 has an incredible group of coaches with a lot of experience and accolades. It is just an honor to work with each of them," said Schoolfield.

Student-athletes Caitlin Ader and Chantz Stewart were also awarded Saturday with all-conference accolades.

Ader, a senior from Florida, claimed All-Big 12 recognition in both Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences. By doing so, she not only became the first student-athlete in program history to earn all-conference honors in both, but also only the second student-athlete to claim recognition on the Flat. For the year, Ader produced 12 victories between the two disciplines with two MOP accolades. She also went 5-4-1 in conference action combined during the regular-season.

Stewart earned her first all-conference accolade in Reining following competition in Waco. Throughout the year, the Arizona native scored MOP accolades in contests against Baylor and Oklahoma State, respectively. During the year, Stewart went 4-2 in league play in Reining, while also collecting three MOP accolades overall in the discipline. The Horned Frogs have now had three student-athletes earn all-conference recognition in Reining as Stewart joined fellow teammate Alexi Child and former Frog Kolby Simonson who were honored a year ago.

Also on Saturday, freshman Rylee Morgan was named the Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Performer in Horsemanship. The Utah native went 2-0 over the weekend in the discipline.

"These ladies work extremely hard day in and day out to be elite student-athletes," said Schoolfield. "We are thrilled to see their efforts awarded."

Since joining the Big 12 Conference, TCU has picked up quite the hardware. The Horned Frogs have now had six all-conference honorees, a Big 12 Championship Most Outstanding Performer, the Big 12 Coach of the Year, two Big 12 Rider of the Year honorees and the 2013 Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
